아는 사람들 중에 호주에서 외로움에 충동 구매로 강아지나 고양이를 입양하곤,

한국에 돌아갈 땐 '비용문제/검역과정문제'등으로 버리거나 파양하고 가는 사람들을 많이 봤습니다.

저도 고양이를 한 마리 키우는데, 이달 말에 돌아가면서 함께 떠나려고 준비 중입니다.

주변 사람들이 돈 많이 들지 않냐, 검역과정이 복잡하지 않냐, 누구는 $2000이 들었다는 등,

확인되지 않은 소문들과 함께 부정적인 의견들이 대부분이었는데,

막상 준비하면서 그런 헛소문들과는 많이 다르다는 것을 알게되었습니다.

혹시 반려동물과 함께 돌아가실 분들을 위해 저의 수속과정을 적어봅니다.

1. 30일 전 : 우선 마이크로칩과 기본적인 접종은 필수입니다. 호주-한국행은 광견병 예방주사가 필요없고 최근 6개월 이상 빅토리아 주에 머물렀던 고양이같은 경우에는 NSW나 다른 몇몇 주와는 달리 헨드라-니파 바이러스 검사가 필요없습니다.

비행기를 예약할 땐 반려동물과 함께 보딩할 것을 말해야합니다. 현재 대한항공에서는 5KG 미만의 고양이나 강아지는 반려인과 함께 기내에서 여행을 할 수 있습니다. 5KG 이상의 동물들은 동물만 들어갈 수있는 수화물칸으로 이동되며 한 사람 당 한 마리만 가능합니다(아시아나는 2마리). 예약할 때 대한항공 홈페이지에 있는 신청서를 작성해서 이메일이나 팩스로 보낸 후 예약을 합니다. 

2. 2주 전 : AQIS 홈페이지에 들어가서 AQIS ACCREDITED VETERINARIANS (http://www.daff.gov.au/aqis/export/live-animals/vets)을 찾아 가장 가까운 곳에 위치한 VET에 FINAL HEALTH CHECK를 예약합니다 (자기가 다녔던 VET의 건강진단서는 효력이 없습니다.) 예약날짜는 반드시 출국 72시간 전이여야 합니다. 

3. AQIS 홈페이지에 들어가서 NOTICE OF INTENTION TO EXPORT LIVE ANIMALS라는 폼을 받아 작성 후 메일이나 팩스로 보냅니다. 빅토리아 주에 사시는 분은 SEANIMAL@AQIS@GOV.AU로 보내면 됩니다. 후에 따로 HEALTH CHECK를 할 것인지, 아니면 가기 전에 서류만 받을 것인지에 대해 안내전화가 오면 시간과 날짜를 예약하면 됩니다.

4. 72시간 전에 예약한 VET에 가서 FINAL HEALTH CHECK를 받은 후 그 곳에서 발행해준 모든 서류들을 가지고 출발 하기 하루 전에 AQIS OFFICE에 가서 EXPORT PERMISSION을 받습니다. 

5. 대한항공 데스크에서 체크인할 때 AQIS에서 발행한 EXPORT PERMISSION과 HEALTH CHECK CERTIFICATE를 모두 제출한 후, 1KG 당 $38의 항공료를 내고 함께 보딩합니다. 

아직 출국하지 않아서 인천공항에서 이루어지는 일들은 잘 모르겠지만, 서류만 정확히 준비했다면 공항에서도 긴 체류없이 바로 입국허가가 이루어진다고 합니다. 

소문으로 듣던 것보다 반려동물을 데리고 한국에 가기위한 모든 프로세스는 간단한 편입니다. 

JETPET이나 다른 대리 운송회사도 있지만, 마취나 진정제를 먹인다는 말도 있고, 가격또한 $1000이 훨씬 넘기때문에 주인과 따로 출발해야하는 상황이 아니라면 굳이 이용할 필요가 없다고 생각합니다. 또한 반려동물도 장시간 혼자 비행을 하는 것보단 주인과 함께할 수있다면 두려움도 줄어들지 않을까요...?

복잡하지도, 비싸지도 않습니다. 조금만 성의를 보인다면 쉽게 한국으로 같이 돌아갈 수 있습니다.

반려동물을 잠시 호주에서의 외로움을 줄일 수단으로 생각하지 말아주세요.

애초에 입양을 생각하셨을 땐, 적어도 15년은 함께 할 것이라는 책임감을 가지고 함께 살았으면 좋겠습니다.

이 글을 보고나서야 좀 정리가 되었고.

생각보다 전화하니까 무척 친절하게 대해주더라.
왠지 이번에 데려가는 게 거의 불가능할 듯 하지만.
그래도 내일까지 어떤 방법이 있는지 생각 좀 해보고 연락주겠다더라. 

SA에서는 바이러스 테스트 안해도 된다는데. VIC 도 안해도 되고. 
QLD는 해야한다고.

Thank you for your enquiry regarding the export of a Cat to Korea from Australia. 

All live animals exported from Australia are required to meet the importing country health requirements and obtain an export permit and, where specified, a health certificate prior to departure.  Details on the process you need to follow and the information you need to provide to AQIS can be found on our website athttp://www.daff.gov.au/aqis/export/live-animals/companion.

Note: protocols are a guideline only and it is your responsibility to contact the relevant Government authority in that country to confirm that you are meeting the most current requirements at the time of export.

Important points to remember:

§          Contact an AQIS Accredited Veterinarian (AAV) to assist in the preparation of your pet(s) for export. These can be found at: http://www.daff.gov.au/aqis/export/live-animals/vets

§          Obtain details of the import requirements from the relevant government authority in the destination country.  It is the exporter’s responsibility to ensure that the animal(s) will comply with the importing country’s requirements at the time of export

§          Complete a ‘Notice of Intention to Export Live Animals’ (NOI) application form and submit it to the nearest AQIS regional office at least 10 working days prior to the intended departure date.  If an import permit is required provide a copy, in English, along with the NOI

§         If you require an import permit it must be obtained prior to submitting your NOI application form to AQIS.  If the import permit is not in English you will need to provide a certified translated copy.

§         Upon receipt of your NOI application form, the AQIS office will contact you to arrange a suitable appointment time for the issuing of the export permit and health certificate.  You will need to bring along all the documentation provided to you by the AAV detailing the treatments, vaccinations and inspections undertaken to prepare your animal(s)

§          A fee for service will apply to the processing of your application and the issuing of the export permit and health certificate per quarter hour or part thereof, which will be charged at the time of service. As a guide, an AQIS appointment will take a minimum of 30 minutes. Payment can be made by credit card or cheque. Some AQIS offices are able to accept cash payments, please check with the individual office when arranging your appointment. §          If there is any likelihood that your pet will be returning to Australia, it is imperative that you discuss this with AQIS as early as possible. Animals cannot be imported (or returned) directly to Australia from some countries, so appropriate advice is essential before your animal leaves Australia. If you wish to re-import your pet within six months of export, preparations must be made prior to leaving Australia.
